How Spark Blood works, end to end
Spark Blood is an emergency blood matching network built for Nigerian hospitals. When a patient needs blood, a coordinator or family member files a request, verified donors of the matching type nearby are alerted in real time, and every step from broadcast to bag is tracked so nobody has to chase a phone tree during a crisis.
The core problem is not that Nigerians refuse to donate. It is that when blood is needed urgently, nobody knows who nearby is eligible, available and the right type. Families end up calling relatives at random while the clock runs. Spark Blood replaces that scramble with a targeted broadcast: the right donors, filtered by blood group and distance, contacted at once through push, SMS and Telegram.
Donor safety and data protection shape the product. Donors self-report eligibility through a screening quiz, hospitals do the clinical screening on arrival, and personal contact details are only exposed to the specific coordinator handling that request. We do not sell donor data and we never publish contact information.
The network is run with hospital coordinators rather than around them. Coordinators verify requests, confirm donations, and close out broadcasts, which keeps records honest and lets us publish real fulfilment numbers instead of vanity metrics.
